According to the calendar, the official first day of summer may be a few weeks later, but here, we like to gauge by Patriot’s Day. And trust us, if you come enjoy the event with us, you’ll start feeling like it’s summer already too!
So what is Patriot’s Day for those who don’t know? The states of Massachusetts, Maine and Wisconsin celebrate this day as an official holiday as it marks the beginning of the American Revolutionary War when the first shots were fired at the Battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775. The celebration takes place on the third Monday of April. If you know when the Boston Marathon is, you know when Patriot’s Day is!
What to do While You’re in Town
The town of Ogunquit goes all out every year for Patriot’s Day. We have the Historical Building Hunt, for example, where participants can go through the most historic landmarks and buildings throughout the city, drawing the buildings in a booklet and being entered to win prizes. We also have treasure hunts throughout the city with even more prizes available. The Fife and Drum concert will take place at 8 PM upstairs at the Ogunquit Baptist Church on April 13the. There’s even an Awesome 80s Prom that will take place at 9 PM on the same night!
On Saturday and Sunday, there are even more adventures, such as the Colonial Flag Treasure Hunt, the “Guess the Weight of the Tea Chest” competition, and the Toy Testing Lab. There will be a beach bazaar and a library book sale held throughout the weekend as well.
