New Shows at Ogunquit Playhouse

Staying at the Admiral’s Inn this fall, you’ve got a world-class seashore and some world-class autumn foliage at your fingertips. And not only that: You can enjoy absolutely world-class musical theater, too, in the form of the 83-year-old Ogunquit Playhouse, which boasts some exciting shows on tap this fall.

Sure, it may be justly known as “America’s Foremost Summer Theatre,” but lately the Playhouse—established during the Little Theatre Movement of the 1930s—has been meeting ever-growing demand by sprawling its season into the fall. Given the Playhouse is just down the street from the Admiral’s Inn, its extended schedule is great news for our autumn guests—and so is the 20% discount on Playhouse tickets we offer!

Frontier Matrimony: Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

Right now the Playhouse is bringing a little bit of the Oregon Territory (circa the mid-1800s) to Ogunquit with its production of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, which runs through October 1st. Adam Pontipee lands himself a wife, who promptly sets it upon herself to match Adam’s six cabin-bound brothers with their own spouses. Needless to say, it’s a process that’s easier said than done. Plenty of showstopper dance routines and songs (including “Wonderful Wonderful Day” and “Goin’ Courtin”) make Seven Brides a perennial favorite.

Cash, Presley, Lewis, Perkins: Million Dollar Quartet
The concluding show of the Ogunquit Playhouse’s regular season is Million Dollar Quartet (October 5 through November 6), brought back by popular demand following its celebrated 2015 run. This Tony Award-winning musical brings to life one of the greatest off-the-cuff recordings in Rock-n-Roll history: the December 4, 1956 session featuring Sun Records stars Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins. Cash’s earth-shaking voice on “I Walk the Line,” Elvis hip-swiveling his way through “Hound Dog,” Jerry Lee going wild on “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” Perkins fueling “Matchbox” with fiery licks—Million Dollar Quartet is the next best thing to having seen these stone-cold legends in their prime!

Holiday Special: Beauty & the Beast

The Playhouse is also presenting a special holiday show, Beauty and the Beast, from November 30 to December 18 at a similarly historic partner venue in Portsmouth, New Hampshire: the Music Hall, which dates to 1878. Portsmouth’s only about a half-hour drive away from Ogunquit, putting this stage version of the Disney classic within easy reach of you at the Admiral’s Inn!

Between matinees and evening shows, you’ve got plenty of options for taking in an autumn show at the Ogunquit Playhouse. And don’t forget: As a guest of the Admiral’s Inn, you get 20% off the ticket price! What a deal.
