Ogunquit, Maine really is the place to go for an ideal summer vacation. With its beautiful coastline, quaint downtown and plethora of activities, you’ll never run out of things to do during your stay. To make your itinerary planning even easier, we’ve gathered some of our favorite ways to spend time in Ogunquit so you can plan with no problem.
Get Outdoors
It’s a well-known fact that Maine is known for its beautiful nature and ocean views, and there are lots of options close-by to experience that natural wonder. There is, of course, Ogunquit Beach, just a 10-minute walk from The Admiral’s Inn, which is the perfect place to post up in the soft sand, bring a good book & some snacks and listen to the crashing waves.
If you’re looking to get moving in the morning, we highly recommend walking the Marginal Way—a 1.25 mile paved coastal stretch connecting the town of Ogunquit with Perkins Cove. Featuring stunning views of Maine’s famous rocky coastline, this path has tucked away beaches, beautiful plants & wildlife and scattered benches perfect for taking in the scenery.
If you’re an adventure-loving family or individual, a hike is a must when you visit us at The Admiral’s Inn. Our local area is aplenty with scenic views, blooming wildflowers, and perfect bird-watching. Head to the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve Woods, or go along the foothills of Mount Agamenticus. These are also great places to bring your pup if they’re along on your travels!
Exciting Entertainment
One of the most highly regarded destinations in Ogunquit is the Ogunquit Playhouse which features live plays & musicals all season. The Playhouse is holding strong to their 91-year legacy of the performing arts that has historically hosted notable stars such as Bette Davis, William Powell, John Raitt, Bette White and more. This season they are set to put on On Your Feet, The DaVinci Code, and Tootsie.
If you’re looking for more variety, The Leavitt Theatre is a bar, restaurant and entertainment venue featuring all kinds of different entertainment. From free movie nights to live music to comedy to drag shows and more—there’s something for everyone.
There’s also always live music happening at the many bars and restaurants in town. Be sure to check out places like Crew—a casual spot right down the street that serves great wings, burgers & more, Jonathan’s—a great place for more upscale fare, and The Front Porch—famous for their sing-a-long piano bar.
If you’re traveling as a family and are looking for ways to preoccupy the little ones, or are just a big kid at heart, check out Wonder Mountain Fun Park—located just a 10 minute drive down Route 1. This lively spot has everything from putt putt to go-karts to an arcade and more!
Maine Must-Dos
When you’re looking for that classic Maine experience, be sure to check out Perkins Cove where you can see the lobster boats—and taste test it for yourself. Filled with Maine shops & restaurants, this is the place to come for seafood on the water.
It wouldn’t be a proper Maine vacation without getting out on the water. There are so many options to set sail in Ogunquit such as Finest Kind Cruises, Sail The Gift and Silverlining Sailing. If you’re feeling lucky and want to see a whale, we recommend First Chance Whale Watch out of Kennebunk which is just a 30 minute drive from The Admiral’s Inn.
Other than lobster, Maine is known for its craft beer—and there’s plenty of it to go around. If you want to head to a brewery, Brickyard Hollow and Odd By Nature Brewing are close by. If you’d like to sample many different Maine breweries, we recommend Cornerstone in downtown Ogunquit—with a large list of local Maine beers to try.
The added beauty of staying at The Admiral’s Inn is that if you don’t feel like going anywhere, we have plenty of on property activities to keep you busy, whether it’s taking a dip in one of our pools, grabbing food and drinks at our patio bar The Helm or hitting the gym or sauna.
