Ogunquit, ME Art Show & Sidewalk Sale

Two of Ogunquit’s liveliest annual summertime traditions are just around the corner, and both of them offer the perfect excuse to come stay with us at the Admiral’s Inn and soak up the charms of our seaside hamlet!

So mark your calendars and get ready for the Ogunquit Annual Sidewalk Art Show and Sale and the Labor Day Weekend Sidewalk Sale. Both make for great day’s out in one of New England’s most beloved summer retreats!

Ogunquit Annual Sidewalk Art Show & Sale

The Sidewalk Art Show & Sale serves as a wonderful expression of Ogunquit’s artistic spirit, which has been such a significant component of the area’s culture and character for so long.

This year, the art show falls on Monday, August 29. Between 9 AM and 4:30 PM, painters, jewelry makers, photographers, and other fine artists will display and sell their creations in sidewalk and tent displays in downtown Ogunquit. Last year, more than 60 artists from all over the Northeast participated in this festive open-air showcase and market.

Strolling the streetside stalls and admiring the talents of these hardworking regional talents, perhaps you’ll reflect a little on Ogunquit’s impressive artsy heritage. The establishment of the Ogunquit Art Colony in the late 19th century and of several highly regarded painting schools (including Charles H. Woodbury’s and Hamilton Easter Field’s) made the town and its inspirational land- and seascapes a beacon for painters, sculptors, photographers, and other artists and artisans.

Besides enjoying the Sidewalk Art Show & Sale, don’t forget you can also pay a visit to the Ogunquit Museum of American Art, which includes some fascinating collections highlighting local art history. (Check out our recent blogpost on the museum!)

Ogunquit Labor Day Weekend Sidewalk Sale

Next comes Ogunquit’s annual Labor Day Weekend Sidewalk Sale, which’ll go down all day on Saturday, September 3 (or, if Saturday’s rainy, September 4). Local businesses will be selling wares in outdoor table displays from downtown to Perkins Cove via Shore Road. This is always a super-festive happening, worth checking out just for the ambience. If you’ve never visited Ogunquit before, you’ll be amazed by the diversity of the offerings: From boutiques to galleries, the community’s homegrown economic vitality will be fully on display for the sidewalk sale!

Come enjoy the closing weeks of summer along Maine’s southern seashore by taking in the Ogunquit Annual Art Show & Sale and the Labor Day Weekend Sidewalk Sale. Soak up the sunshine, support independent artists and local businesses, and kick back at the Admiral’s Inn while you’re at it—we’d love to have you!
